VTG Remixes The Presets “Kicking & Screaming

brand_remix_artRecently, I remixed this little ditty by The Presets. I set a 4 hour time limit on the remix just to spice things up a bit and as a little experiment went for a more “in” underproduced sound – something uncharacteristic of what I usually do. It’s actually more of a rewrite of the song… Best served cold on a breakbeat dance floor. Download away and let me know if you DJ or podcast it out… Comments encouraged.

WOMP | VTG Electro Patch Set for Virus TI (OS2/OS3)

virusti
WOMP = “Weapon of Mass Production”. So… I really wanted a nasty sound bank for my Virus TI, something that made the woofers shake, something that had LOTS of great modulation and LFO usage. My one gripe with most sound banks I’ve used is that they were too normal, too clean.

So, late last year I set forth to create a dirty, Electro (somewhat Industrial) patch set for the Virus TI. Well, I’ve finally finished and I’m really excited to release it publicly. I did a lot of work w/ the Matrix and the LFOs so be sure to play excessively with the soft knobs on the virus when you use these patches! There’s dubstep-esque basses, nasty little arps, raunchy electro leads and ghostly ambient pads included in the bank. You’ll be hearing a lot of these sounds in our next album.

During the making of the “VTG Electro Patch Set” for the Virus, Access Music released the OS3 update. Good timing! I’ve actually included about 25+ patches at the end of the bank that include features of the OS3 firmware update, specifically, the  new distortions, characters, delay and the stereo frequency shifter.

So, most of the patches work on OS2 and a few include OS3 features. Please comment and let me know what you think. Now go DOWNLOAD AWAY!

12.01.2008 | WOMP | That Daft Punk Pumping Sidechain

OK! So what the hell is Daft Punk doing to get that “pumping” sound in their songs? That’s what we’re going to tackle here in this Weapon of Mass Production… and frankly, you’ll be surprised at how simple it really is to setup this sound. It’s a compression effect called ducking and what it does is compress one audio signal using the amplitude of another. Rather than spend a bunch of time writing out the details, what I’ve decided to do is give you an ableton live session of a new track I’m working on that has the ducking setup properly. So download the session, open it up and mess with the compressor on the synth track. Turn it on and off and mess with the attack and release to fine tune that pumping sound. For those of you who’d like more info on ducking, there’s a great tutorial here as well as sound examples. Next WOMP there’ll be something very special for you Access Virus users…

How to install and use:

  1. - Download Ableton Live Daft Ducking Project (596)
  2. - Unzip and open session in Ableton Live
  3. - On the Synth track, locate the compressor and turn it on and off and listen to the change
  4. - Suggested: Mess w/ attack and release on the compressor
  5. - TIP: Try compressing the Synth audio with the Bass signal

And here’s a sample of a new VTG song with the ducking in action:
